Liberty Village Project is a volunteer-based community service organization serving a wide variety of life affirming programs and services to children, youth, their families and senior citizens. Our services operate year-round serving over 500 children, youth and families who attend Liberty Elementary School and/or our seniors who utilize the Liberty Rec and Tech Center each week. We are driven to implement the Community Schools model delivering wrap-around supports as endorsed by US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan in 2015 when he proclaimed Liberty Elementary as a Community School Model for the Nation.
The Vision of the Liberty Village Project is to sustain a partnership between the Liberty Rec and Tech Center and community to improve the lives of children and their families. The main goal of this project is to have a stronger community and school connection by fostering the concept of a Community School. We believe that we can borrow from past lessons learned and create a way to have community, the school and the Liberty Rec and Tech Center be more inextricably linked. By forging an improved connection it allows for more community members, parents, teachers and students to become better champions for themselves.
The Liberty Village Project was founded in 2012 by Kim Trueheart, active citizen, youth advocate, citizen journalist, truth seeker and writer, Baltimore City native and U.S. Navy veteran.
